What Breaks your Heart – This is what breaks mine.

The Awakened Woman – A Guide for Remembering and Igniting your Sacred Dreams written by Dr Tererai Trent is the book that I’m currently reading. I still have a way to go, but this book is holding me captive as I devour its pages. It’s a book that speaks to women’s wisdom, and power.

In the first chapter Trent talks about finding your great hunger, and asks the question “What breaks your heart?”

When I looked deep into my own heart and asked myself this, I realized it’s when women think they are washed up. When the children have moved on, when employers overlook them for someone younger, when digital technology seems all too hard, when their body no longer is its youthful version, when they want to start a business and everyone thinks they are crazy or incapable or when they wistfully state: I always wanted to learn………..

Ladies I want to say, its never too late. With International Women’s Day around the corner, let’s start a movement, one that throws ageism out the window.

Let’s value individuals no matter their age, for who they are and the gifts, possibility and abilities they bring.

Let’s ignite your passion to explore your second act in life, to see this time as the amazing gift that it is, and not just a waiting room that we sit in until the final curtain falls.

If it all sounds too hard, I encourage you to reach out, reach out for a mentor or coach, reach out and read Tererai Trent’s book, reach out and lift up other women.

Stop saying one day and say DAY ONE – its time to begin and it’s never too late

What breaks your heart?
